Six Senses Laamu: Luxury Eco-Resort in the Maldives

By Sophie Bowden

Six Senses Laamu sustainable luxury resort

Spending a week at Six Senses Laamu was one of the best holiday decisions we've made. This sustainable luxury resort offered the perfect balance of relaxation, adventure, and seriously good food, all whilst maintaining an impressive commitment to environmental conservation and community support.

Our days quickly found a blissful rhythm in this Maldivian paradise. Mornings began with sunrise yoga sessions, led by an expert instructor who offered a range of classes from sound yoga to facial yoga. For those seeking an extra challenge, aerial yoga was also available — a fun (and sometimes humbling) way to test your balance and strength while suspended mid-air!

When it came to snorkelling, Six Senses Laamu is simply unmatched. The house reef is incredible — alive with colourful fish, sea turtles, and reef sharks — and easy to access straight from the Chill Bar. The sea grass beds nearby were another hidden gem, home to a surprising amount of marine life. Turtles, reef sharks, schools of electric-coloured fish — it felt like swimming through a living, breathing aquarium. And the best part? All of this natural marine beauty was just steps from our luxury overwater villa. These villas offer direct access to the ocean with incredible views. Our private deck soon became our favourite spot for morning coffee and evening stargazing.

If you're a sun lover you're spoiled for choice: poolside loungers, private villa decks, or the warm, shallow waters of the sea — all perfect for soaking up the tropical sun.

Barefoot Bliss

One of the highlights of our trip was the incredible sustainability tour. Six Senses Laamu is deeply committed to protecting the environment, and seeing firsthand how they produce their own drinking water, grow organic food in their gardens, and support the local communities left us feeling inspired and hopeful. It's not just talk — it's a way of life here.

The farm-to-table LEAF restaurant

Foodies, prepare to fall in love. LEAF, the resort's stunning farm-to-table restaurant, served some of the freshest and most delicious local cuisine we've ever tasted. Think just-caught seafood, herbs picked straight from the garden, and a creative twist on Mediterranean flavours - a reminder of how good food can be when it's this close to the source. Another favourite was Zen for a fabulous Japanese menu. Of course, no day at Six Senses Laamu was complete without a visit (or two) to the complimentary ice cream parlour. With over 40 mind-blowing flavours — from classic chocolate to unexpected tropical combinations — it quickly became a daily ritual we all looked forward to.

After sun-soaked mornings and adventure-filled afternoons, the spa was exactly what you'd hope for in a luxury setting like this — calming spaces, skilled therapists, and treatments that left you feeling genuinely better, not just relaxed for an hour. The spa's holistic approach to wellness perfectly complemented the feel of the resort and island.

Every box ticked

Families will be thrilled to know that the kids club here is next level. Creative activities and marine discovery programs keep the little ones endlessly entertained (and gave the grown-ups some well-deserved downtime!).

And the cherry on top? Our private dolphin cruise with the resort's house marine biologist. Watching pods of playful dolphins leap and spin in the wild open sea, while learning about their behaviour and the conservation efforts to protect the marine ecosystem of the Maldives, was a memory we'll treasure forever.

In short, our week at Six Senses Laamu was pure magic. Between the heartfelt hospitality, unforgettable experiences, and breathtaking natural beauty, it's a place that leaves you not only relaxed but deeply restored. We're already dreaming of our next visit!
